Bit of a Set back

Posted by TYSON in The Project

Unfortunatly another set back today after reading the ANDRA rule book, turns out i need one of these. basically it’s an electonic limiter that limits boost to 40PSI. I have no issues running it, tis just another cost that wasnt budgeted and the fact that it includes the BOV means i have to wait for it to get here to continue with the next step. It’s also one of those things that is completly wasted on this bike, because a) 40PSI will destroy the motor quicker than that valve can open the BOV, b) i already have an overboost limit set on the ECU.

On the plus side, the rest of the bike seems to comply with the Modified Bike class. (AA/MB)

More Progress

Well, sad to say my holidays are over. I didn’t achieve as much as i hoped to because i ran out of funds. All the little things are starting to add up.  Im now just waiting on some more overtime to grab a chain and to get enzed to plumb up the oil lines to the turbo and finally to find someone to fabricate/weld a charge tube to go from the turbo to the plenum. If anyone has access to a tig that can do ali and the skills to go with it let me know, shouldn’t be too much work.

While waiting for the above, the assembly process continued, it entails checking everything to ensure it’s torqued up, finding bolts, fabricating a new undertail to mount the electrics, rewiring the electrics to suit the new position of the ecu and msd. Slowly but surely i’m getting there.

The engine is now cranking, has oil pressure, and we have spark from the MSD (and what a nasty spark it is haha)

I will keep going through the week and if i find something that is worthy of an update i will be sure to post up. Until then, here’s some more pics.

PS, got a new camera today, Canon S5, still working out the right settings but so far i like it. :)

Not much too say, but thought it was time for an update. Everything has gone together quite well so far with no major issues.

Well today tyse and I got stuck into getting some more paint on the bike as we are (hopefully) entering the final assembly faze. We were going to go a saturn black on the frame but ended up with the gloss which I must say im really happy with. We managed to get most of the brackets sprayed up today as well as the rear tyre in black and the front in the Gold. By the end of the week we hope to have it looking like a bike again and making a little noise :)

Busy Night

I was on fire tonight no not literally but over a period of about 2 hours i managed to get the bike stripped down to a bare frame. This will leave tomorrow night to get everything prepped for paint and then sunday to paint it. I think today was the most productive day i’ve had on the bike. Not much really to say so i’ll let the pictures do the work. (PS, i know the weld near the ram duct looks like crap, but it was decided to beef up the area and then file it back, which i have done but i forgot to take pics of it.)

Road Trip.

Posted by TYSON in The Project

Feb

For the second time in the last week i have loaded the bike up and taken it on a road trip. With the weather how it has been here lately, the air-con in the car is a lot better than working outside.

Today i went out to get some parts to finish the turbo oiling system, Grabbed some flanges from http://www.mtqes.com.au in malaga, they had everything i need and the pricing was great.

Then i headed over to Enzed in Osborne park to see if they can make up some nice stainless oil feed and drain lines for the turbo, They can do it and the bike will be back there next week.

Just about to take it back to Tow bar city in Osborne park for some alloy welding to fix up some imperfections in the frame. With this amount of horsepower i cant take any risks.

While I’m out again I’ll take a wander up to the paint shop to pick up some paint for the frame, as this weekend the bike is going to be stripped again, the frame painted and then re-assembled for the last time. If all goes to plan it will be going back together on Monday.

Since it was out on the trailer and in good light i thought it would be a good time to snap some more pictures of the turbo mounted and the new tail. The tail looks a bit out of place without the extended swing arm, Hopefully it’s only a few weeks away

The turbo is mounted!

This weekend was quite productive, started with loading the bike up and making a trip out to see Billywhizz. (Words cant express how much of a damn great guy Billywhizz is, top notch welder too, thanks mate)The trip was to get the turbo header modified to fit the bigger turbo, The header is for a slightly smaller turbo which meant that the turbo was about 15mm away from bolting straight up. we had to cut the Header flange off and resposition it slightly so we could get the turbo bolted up. I look at this as quite a large stepping stone in the project as before this the bike was really just a rebuilt motor with a bit of gofast goodies, it’s now that one step closer to getting fired up.

After I returned, work continued with the wiring and hope to get it finished this week. all the Electrics are just mocked in place with cable ties untill the new tail arrives and a new aluminium undertail can be measured up and sent off to the laser cutters to get cut. (in other words, ignore the cable ties)

Some brackets were made up to mount the two MSD coils, bit of an issue finding the right place to mount them while keeping it a short enough distance from the spark plugs and trying to keep it looking tidy, in the end i put them in front of the old ram air holes in the frame. I haven’t tried to fit the fairing but they look like they will be alright.

Anyway, here’s some progress pics.

Bodywork, Part 1

Posted by TYSON in The Project

23

Feb

Just another quick update,

Order was put through for some bodywork today. Fibreglass tail extended 6inches

a) The bike will not have the look i hate with extended swingarms, you know, where the wheel is 6+ inches past the body work.

b) will allow it to be lowered more without the tyre rubbing when on the power.

Had two, options, one with the hump and a one piece solo tail, went with the hump so i can still take passengers on this beast
